March

March is a transitional month — one day might feel like early summer, the next could bring a sharp Levante wind from the east. The almond trees in the countryside are in full blossom, turning the hillsides white and pink. This is an excellent month for hiking in Sierra Espuña, when temperatures are ideal and the trails are quiet. April

For many, April is the single best month to visit Murcia. Highs reach 23°C, the skies are almost invariably blue, and the Bando de la Huerta festival — held on the Tuesday after Easter — transforms the city into a giant street party celebrating Murcia's agricultural heritage. Expect free-flowing wine, giant paellas cooked in the street, traditional costumes, and flower-decorated floats. June

The most civilised of the summer months. Highs of 31°C, low humidity, and long days with sunset after 9:30pm. The Corpus Christi procession sees the city's streets covered in flower petals and aromatic herbs, while the Murcia Tres Culturas festival brings concerts and open-air cinema to the city. June is popular with Spanish tourists but not yet at peak international visitor levels, so hotel availability is decent. Early morning and late afternoon are the best times for sightseeing; plan to be indoors or at the pool between 1pm and 5pm.

July

July is the hottest month, with average highs of 35°C and peaks reaching 40°C. August

The Feria de Murcia, held in the first half of September (sometimes beginning in late August), is the city's biggest annual celebration: two weeks of concerts, fairground rides, bullfights, and fireworks around the Malecón area. Autumn (September–November): The Second Spring

Autumn in Murcia is a revelation. September

The Feria de Murcia dominates the first half of the month — two weeks of round-the-clock celebration that attract visitors from across Spain. If you are not attending the feria, visit in the second half when the city returns to normal and you will have the main sights largely to yourself. Sea temperatures hold at 24–25°C, and the Mar Menor remains a pleasure. Sierra Espuña's forests begin their gradual colour change, making this a wonderful month for hiking. October

Alongside April, October is Murcia's best month. Temperatures are perfect — highs around 26°C, lows of 14°C — and the summer crowds are gone. The grape harvest is underway in the wine regions of Jumilla and Yecla (40–60 minutes inland), and vineyard tours and tastings are widely available. The Fiestas del Pilar in mid-October bring a smaller-scale celebration to the city with flower offerings and street performances. October is also the best month for serious hiking — the Sierra Espuña trails are at their most beautiful, with clear air giving panoramic views to the Mediterranean.

November

Autumn proper arrives in November. Daytime highs settle around 19°C, and you will need a jacket for evenings (lows around 8°C). The plane trees along the Segura turn gold, and the city takes on a quieter, more introspective feel. Rainfall is slightly higher than in summer months, but Murcia still averages only 5–6 rainy days in November. This is the cheapest month for hotels outside of the depths of winter, and attractions are wonderfully uncrowded. Winter (December–February): Mild and Authentic

Murcia winters are among the mildest in Europe. Daytime highs average 16–17°C — warm enough to sit outside at a café for lunch on most days. Frost is extremely rare in the city (though it can occur inland overnight), and snow is virtually unheard of except on the highest peaks of Sierra Espuña. Winter is the season for experiencing Murcia at its most authentic: the bars are filled with locals rather than tourists, the Christmas lights transform the city, and hotel prices are at their lowest.

December

The Christmas season in Murcia is charming and understated compared to northern European cities. The Plaza de Santo Domingo hosts a traditional Christmas market with artisan crafts and local foods, and the Cathedral's nativity scene is one of the largest in Spain. Daytime highs average 17°C — you might be wearing a light jacket while friends back home are shovelling snow. January

The coldest month, but "cold" by Murcian standards means daytime highs of 16°C and nighttime lows around 4°C. The January sales (rebajas) make it an excellent month for shopping along Calle Trapería and the Nueva Condomina shopping centre. February

Temperatures begin their slow climb towards spring, with highs reaching 18°C. February is Carnival month, and while Murcia's celebrations are less famous than those in Cádiz or Tenerife, the city still puts on parades, costume contests, and children's events.
