Sentier du Littoral (Coastal Path)

This stunning coastal walk traces the edge of the limestone cliffs from the marina around towards Cap de Pertusato. The trail offers breathtaking views of the white cliffs, the Strait of Bonifacio, and Sardinia on the horizon. It's about 5 km one way, taking roughly 1.5-2 hours, with plenty of spots to stop and admire the sculpted limestone formations and the distinctive Grain de Sable rock just offshore. The trail is mostly flat and well-maintained, making it accessible to most fitness levels. Spring and autumn are the ideal seasons when the maquis is in flower and the light is soft.

Lavezzi Islands Hiking

A boat trip from Bonifacio marina takes you to the uninhabited Lavezzi Islands in about 30 minutes. Once there, marked trails cross the rugged granite landscape between crystal-clear coves and sandy beaches. The main island, Lavezzu, has a well-marked circuit of about 4 km that passes the old quarantine station, Genoese fortifications, and the stunning Cala di Luana beach. Allow half a day including boat transfer. The terrain is uneven granite — wear sturdy shoes and bring plenty of water as there is no shade on much of the island. The snorkelling in the clear channels between the granite boulders is exceptional.

Phare de Pertusato Walk

Starting from the car park near the southern end of the peninsula, a 2 km trail leads to the Phare de Pertusato lighthouse — the southernmost point of Metropolitan France. The walk crosses maquis-covered slopes with panoramic views of Sardinia and the Lavezzi Islands. Continue a little further to see the Gouvernail rock, a dramatic granite stack rising from the sea. The walk is easy and takes about 1 hour round trip. Go at sunset for the most spectacular light over the Strait. The wind can be fierce here even in summer, so bring a layer.

Sentier des Douaniers (Customs Officer Path)

This ancient coastal path runs along the western cliffs of the Bonifacio peninsula, linking the marina to the Plage de la Tonnara. The 3.5 km trail (each way) follows the contours of the limestone cliffs through dense maquis, with frequent viewpoints over the Bouches de Bonifacio reserve and the Lavezzi Islands. Traditionally used by customs officers to patrol the coast, the path is now a designated hiking trail with clear markings. The trail ends at the small Plage de la Tonnara, a pebble beach popular with locals. The walk takes about 1.5 hours and offers some of the best coastal scenery in southern Corsica.
