September is arguably the best month to visit Lecco. The autumn colours transform the chestnut forests along the Sentiero del Viandante and the slopes of Monte Resegone into shades of gold and copper. October is still good, especially in the first half. Temperatures range from 10-18°C, which is ideal for hiking. The cable car runs through October, and the mountain huts at Piani d'Erna serve their last polenta of the season before closing for winter.
