Brindisi sits on the Adriatic coast of Apulia, enjoying a classic Mediterranean climate — hot, dry summers and mild, wetter winters. But the best time to visit really depends on what you're after. Beach holidays, cultural city breaks, food tours, budget travel — each season offers a different Brindisi.

Spring is arguably the best season for sightseeing in Brindisi. Temperatures range from 14°C in March to 22°C in May. The countryside explodes with wildflowers — the olive groves and almond orchards around the city bloom beautifully. Hotel rates are still moderate, especially in March and April. The Easter period sees a surge of visitors for the Processione del Venerdì Santo (Good Friday procession), one of Brindisi's most deeply felt traditions.
May is a sweet spot: warm enough for the first beach visits, yet not crowded. The historic centre is quiet in the mornings, perfect for photographing the Roman Columns and Castello Svevo without tourists photobombing. Day trips to Lecce (30 minutes by train) and Ostuni (25 minutes by car) are delightful with comfortable walking weather.
Summer is peak season — for good reason. June through August delivers long, sun-drenched days with temperatures averaging 28-35°C. July and August can be intense, with heatwaves occasionally pushing past 38°C. The sea is warm (24-27°C), and the beaches at Torre Guaceto nature reserve are at their liveliest.
This is the most expensive season. Hotel rates can double compared to spring. Book well in advance — at least 2-3 months ahead for July and August. The Estate Brindisina summer programme fills the city with outdoor concerts, theatre performances, and food festivals. The Cavalcata di Sant'Oronzo in August is a spectacular equestrian and folkloric procession.
Pro tip: if you visit in summer, stay at a Masseria (like Masseria Sant'Elia) in the countryside where it's cooler at night, and use the early morning for sightseeing before the heat peaks.
September and October are the hidden gems of the Brindisi calendar. The sea is still warm from summer, crowds thin out, and temperatures drop to a comfortable 22-27°C. This is harvest season in Apulia — grape picking, olive harvesting, and food festivals everywhere.
The Brindisi Wine Festival in September celebrates the region's winemaking heritage, with tastings of Primitivo, Negroamaro, and Susumaniello. It's an excellent time for food lovers to explore the city's restaurant and food scene. Hotel rates drop significantly from October onwards.
November is the quietest month. Days are mild (14-18°C), rain is more frequent, but you'll have museums, churches, and restaurants almost to yourself. Great for photographers and culture seekers on a budget.
Winter in Brindisi is mild by European standards — 8-15°C — though it can feel damp and windy near the harbour. This is the cheapest time to visit. Flights from the UK and northern Europe can be as low as EUR30 one-way. Hotels offer their lowest rates.
The Christmas season brings festive lights to the historic centre and a Christmas market in Piazza della Vittoria. January sees the Feast of San Teodoro, Brindisi's patron saint, with processions and celebrations. February is the quietest month — perfect for long walks along the waterfront, lingering in museums, and enjoying the city without the tourist crowds.
Winter is also a great time for indoor attractions: the Museo Archeologico Provinciale with its extensive Messapian and Roman collections, the Teatro Comunale with its winter programme of opera and theatre, and the Santa Maria del Casale with its stunning Gothic frescoes.

Best for Beaches — June to September. Sea temperatures peak in August-September at 25-27°C. Visit Torre Guaceto nature reserve for the cleanest, most eco-friendly beach experience.
Best for Sightseeing — April to June and September to October. Mild temperatures, bright sunshine, and minimal rain make walking tours of the historic centre and day trips ideal.
Best for Budget Travellers — November to March. Lowest hotel and flight prices. Brindisi's cultural attractions are open year-round, and restaurants offer winter menus at lower prices.
Best for Food & Wine — September to November. The grape and olive harvests bring the freshest local produce. The Brindisi Wine Festival in September is a highlight. Autumn seafood is at its best.
