Ascot Hyde Park Hotel

"I was looking for a hotel near Paddington Station for a few days. Initially, I wanted to stay at Premier Inn, as it’s usually my go-to for a reasonably priced and reliable stay. Unfortunately, it was fully booked. While searching nearby, I unexpectedly found Ascot Hyde Hotel, which was actually even cheaper than Premier Inn! There were only two rooms left at the time.\n\nThe hotel offers rooms with large, openable windows, but some guests have complained about the more enclosed, stuffy “sauna-like” rooms. The room I stayed in was one of the stuffier ones and required taking the stairs. The bathroom was small with weak water pressure. Still, I feel I must praise this hotel.\n\nIt was very clean—almost no dust anywhere, and even the carpet was spotless. The bed was also very clean, which made me feel at ease lying down. The mattress seemed quite new too—there were no sunken spots from overuse.\n\nOne pleasant surprise: even though I didn’t request housekeeping, the staff still provided me with fresh towels. That really gave me confidence in the hotel’s management and service quality.\n\nHonestly, considering the price and the service, this hotel is a great deal! The location is super convenient, with easy access to transportation, coffee shops, and restaurants nearby. I feel really lucky to have booked this place at such a good price.\n\nI would definitely stay here again."

"I’m going to struggle to find the words to say how bad this place was. The strong smell of cigarette everywhere in the hotel, the dirty laundry piled up on a stairwell, the filthy bathroom, the broken shower, the filthy bed linen, the take-away food bags on the floor in the corridors, the shower curtain so crusty we had trouble unfolding it, the bedroom door which didn’t lock, the incredibly unprofessional staff… We left after spending one night there (after having to move to another bedroom which was just as disgusting as the first) and were refused a refund. I have a feeling Trading Standards and Health and Safety will have things to say about this place."

"Easy to get to from tube and train station and just down from a lovely little shop that does amazing Croissants. The hotel itself is basic to the extreme! Thankfully we didn’t spend much time in it. Smelt of smoke, didn’t seem that secure, rooms were tiny. Literally fits a double bed in and that’s the limit. Mattress was so firm I woke up with a bad back both mornings. Bathroom was okay overall just nowhere to hang towels and is very tiny. Room was like a sauna and the fan supplied in the room was extremely loud. We were on the third floor, we used the lift when we got there but the stench of that lift was disgusting. We didn’t use it after that and just used the rickety old stairs. Ideally I would like to avoid ever having to stay here again. Owner/guy at front desk was nice enough to my partner but seemed to have a problem with me and I’m not sure why."
