"A Profound Disappointment – Far from a Five-Star Experience\nMy recent stay at Hotel Akgun in Istanbul was, regrettably, one of the most disappointing hotel experiences I have ever had. The establishment falls significantly short of the standards one would reasonably expect from a property that claims to be five stars.\n\nIt’s a very old hotel. To begin with, the air conditioning was woefully inadequate—it barely functioned, making it extremely uncomfortable to remain in the room for any extended period of time. The television provided was no larger than twelve inches and, to add to the absurdity, it was not operational upon our arrival. We had to request a replacement, which in itself is unacceptable for a hotel of this purported caliber.\n\nMoreover, the electric kettle did not function at all, further highlighting the lack of basic maintenance and attention to detail. The bathrobes provided were visibly worn and discolored—hardly befitting even a modest establishment, let alone one that advertises itself as luxurious.\nWe asked for ice and the room service provided using a plastic bag.\nIn all honesty, I struggle to understand how this hotel maintains a five-star rating. Even assigning it three stars would be an act of generosity. The overall condition of the facilities and the lack of functional amenities make it clear that this property is in urgent need of review and reform.\n\nI would strongly advise future guests to temper their expectations—or better yet, seek accommodation elsewhere."

"I recently stayed at Akgün Hotel Istanbul and found that while the hotel presents itself as a five-star establishment, the actual experience didn’t live up to that standard.\n\nThe lobby and common areas are elegant, but the room itself was disappointing. The decor felt outdated, with old-style rugs and furniture that lacked the refinement and modern design expected from a luxury hotel. In terms of comfort and ambiance, the room felt more like something you’d find in a 3-star hotel.\n\nBreakfast was included in the room rate, but the selection was limited. While Turkish style hot dishes were available, there were no typical Western options such as hash browns, baked beans, or a live omelette station—features that are usually standard in international five-star hotels. The focus was almost entirely on local cuisine, which may not suit all guests.\n\nStaff service was polite at first, especially during check-in, when the trolley attendants were quick to assist—likely hoping for a tip. However, when I checked out, that courtesy disappeared. Two staff members in red uniforms stood by and watched without offering to help me carry my luggage or load it into the taxi. It was an unprofessional and disappointing way to end the stay.\n\nIn summary, Akgün Hotel has potential with its location and some of its facilities, but it falls short in terms of room quality, food variety, and consistent service. It may look like a five-star hotel on the surface, but the overall experience is closer to three stars."

"Absolutely appalling – far from a 5‑star experience at Akgun Istanbul Hotel\n\nI endured a two-week stay at Akgun Istanbul Hotel—labeled as a five‑star property—but what followed was nothing short of a nightmare.\n\nFood: The on-site restaurant is virtually inedible. Despite the glowing claims of “fabulous breakfast” and “lots of choices” , only the cheese and fruit plates were remotely palatable. And yes—I found a hair in my food, which felt obscene for a hotel that supposedly specializes in hygiene and presentation.\n\nHousekeeping: Though I clearly hung the “Do Not Disturb” sign on my door, staff persistently banged and tried to enter while I was sleeping. Yet when I explicitly requested cleaning multiple times in a single day? Nothing happened. It’s like the hotel operates under a policy of complete incompetence.\n\nBathroom issues: The shower drain wouldn’t let water out, turning my daily rinse into a swampy standing pool.\n\nPool policy: Though advertised as a relaxing outdoor pool with pool bar service and sun‑loungers  , it closes strictly at 18:00, and everyone is shoved out regardless of the weather or time. Absolutely inflexible and inconvenient.\n\nLobby environment: The air conditioning in the lobby was non‑functional, making the entire area uncomfortably hot. It’s surprising they market a lobby bar and lounge but can’t keep it at even a basic temperature.\n\nOnly positive: The pool waiter was polite and helpful—he really stood out as the only bright spot of my stay. He deserves better."
