Charming Oasis In The Centre Of Madrid

"Fantastic hostel! Clean and comfortable rooms, good AC and the rooftop restaurant is super cool too.\n\nWhat really stands out though is the service and staff. A huge thanks in particular to Arturo, Maria and Medina for their kindness and generosity, going out of their way to make sure I feel at home and welcome here in Madrid!"

"There are many things to like about The Hat Hostel but unfortunately there are also a couple of significant drawbacks.\n\nTo start off, the location is amazing, quite literally a stone's throw from Plaza Mayor, close to public transportation, lots of bars, restaurants and basically right in the middle of the action in Madrid.\n\nI got the 4 person dorm, it came with a decent sized locker for my smaller bag and I could store my bigger bag under the bed. The room had a window facing the street which was great for ventilation as there was no AC or fan (which during my stay was fine, didn't need either)\n\nSocial events organized by the staff were great! The sangria class was exceptional and the pub crawl was also super fun, a great way to socialize with other people staying at the hostel. There was a Peruvian girl working there who organized both, unfortunately I cannot remember her name but she was really great. The upstairs terrace was also lovely and a nice place to enjoy breakfast in the morning (which was extra) or a glass of wine in the evening.\n\nThe staff on the whole were a mixed bag, most of them were fantastic, super friendly and helpful but there were a couple who worked at the terrace upstairs who were simply awful, especially the older blonde lady with the pixie cut, really bad energy.\n\nThe bathroom situation also left a lot to be desired during my stay. No soap in the soap dispensers, 1/2 showers did not have hot water. I don't know how many people were sharing 2 showers + 2 toilets but it seemed to be really busy, at least on my floor.\n\nI had a decent experience overall but I feel like a little more attention to some facilities and a little more kindness on the part of some of the staff would go a long way."

"This hostel is fantastic! Beds are incredibly comfortable and quiet. Rooms are spacious and clean. The shower is too small, we can barely fit in it 😂. They gently offer a pleasant Sangria night, which makes me want to give 10 stars, but they really need to improve the shower. One thing I would recommend is that they use silence signs in the rooms, with recommendations to people not to listen to music in the room, be silent after 10pm, not talk on the phones in the room, and do not eat in the room! That’s very annoying! Some people do not have common sense, so they need advice. It would make the stay much more pleasant! This is not a hostel issue, but it’s people with no education, though. It would help if they ask them upon check-in."
